Laurent LAFOURCADE's brand new online radio programme about French comics BOULEVARD BD presents the third installment of the MARTIN MILAN "Integrale" omnibus edition published by Le Lombard in a new podcast.
The second volume of the MARTIN MILAN omnibus edition (MAARTEN MILAAN LUCHTSCHIPPER) is OUT NOW in the Netherlands and Belgium, and it's sweet-smelling and gorgeous. It exists both in normal and luxury editions - the luxury edition features a removable book jacket and a collectible bookplate. Translator and publisher Hans van den Boom has translated Patrick Gaumer's foreword faithfully into Dutch and has taken the trouble of tracking down the original covers from the Dutch edition of Tintin magazine, Kuifje.
A genuine labour of love.

THE VESPA ERA / LE TEMPS DES VESPA - An ode to the time when Vespa scooters were all the rage, despite the initial design flaw (later corrected by the Italian scooter makers) which gave the owners such a quaint walk and spine curvature. Excerpt from the collective comics A fond la Gomme. Texts and art by Christian GODARD, directed by E. METAIN.
THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THE JUNGLE GONE WILD is a French comics series by Christian GODARD, following in the footsteps of the original JUNGLE GONE WILD created in Pif magazine in the 70s by Christian GODARD and Mic DELINX. It follows the crazy goings-on of a group of animals whose life closely mirrors the madness in our own increasingly loony, so-called "civilisation". In this episode, Joe the vegetarian tiger is reading Darwin's theory of evolution and musing on similarities between man and jungle animals...
NORBERT, a Parisian who has decided to leave the rat race and settle on the small Polynesian island of Taaratatah, waxes lyrical about the many uses of the coconut tree, without much help from his young Polynesian friend KARI...
MARTIN MILAN is a taxi-plane pilot whose almost completely derelict plane the Old Pelican is constantly on the verge of falling apart. In search of unlikely clients for his plane, he is happy to get hired by Y. Karr, a flying stuntman. Little does he know the man is, in fact, an escaped convict...

Once upon a time, the French and Belgian comics world's success rested mostly on its very popular illustrated magazines for children and youngsters. It was the golden age of weekly magazines such as PILOTE, LE JOURNAL TINTIN, PIF-GADGET, and LE JOURNAL DE SPIROU.
Nowadays, the only survivor is SPIROU - all the other magazines having gone the way of the buffalo. In the 50s and 60s, LE JOURNAL DE SPIROU always published special seasonal issues for Christmas. Comics luminaries like Franquin, Will, Peyo, would contribute to the season's spirit with short comics Christmas tales that hardly ever were picked for publication in book form.
Comics historians Christelle and Bertrand Pissavy Yvernault have gathered the very best of these Christmas comics tales of the 1955-1969 period in this brand new anthology.
The magnificent volume also features a very special guest : TOUPET LA TEMPÊTE, by Christian GODARD, makes his very first appearance in the aptly-named LE PREMIER NOËL DE TOUPET.
TOUPET - known as Danny in German, and Lokje in Dutch, is no ordinary baby.
The newborn unwittingly brings about all matters of catastrophes just by being there. His hapless parents are well-meaning but clearly overwhelmed by the Herculean task of coping with a very demanding and stubborn baby, whose only word so far is "NO !" and whose favorite toy is... a hammer. Yes, you read it right. A hammer.
TOUPET's first version was only published twice in Spirou in the 60s, written and drawn by Christian GODARD alone ; but the accident-prone hero in diapers would later resurface, in the 80s, his adventures, this time, drawn by Albert Blesteau but still written by Christian Godard, and the results enchanted and amused readers from 1988 till 2007, over the course of 18 very successful comic books.
It's time to rediscover TOUPET, and what a better moment than Christmas to enthuse about the first adventures of a much-loved newborn ?
The third installment (out of 4) of the MARTIN MILAN INTEGRALE omnibus edition is just out at LE LOMBARD, and once again, it's gorgeous.
With a clever introduction by French comics historian Patrick GAUMER, presenting oodles of previously unpublished photos and drawings, it also features a very rare and moving short comics story, 'Comme un bruit d'ailes au fond du cœur...'.
After the first few humorous stories of the beginnings of the series, Martin Milan's travels become more adventurous, and the character progressively develops, reveals hidden depths, and a very personal moral sense, as the stories become richer and more philosophical.
If you liked the first two, you'll love this one.

MAARTEN MILAAN has always had a strong cult following in the Netherlands and in Flemish-speaking regions of Belgium, where he was sorely missed.

Another new watercolour from Christian GODARD, commissioned by BD Mania/Inanna publishings, and representing Inanna, the Sumerian goddess of Love.
Christian Godard's longtime readers know that his first ambition, long before becoming a successful comics artist & writer, was to publish crime novels. He did in fact write a handful of thrillers and suspense novels, but most of them had become rare and were difficult to track down.
His book Le Fils du Notaire, a political thriller co-written with E. METAIN, is finally available (in French) on Kindle Amazon.
Joining the likes of prestigious French-Belgian comics artists Walthery, Jaap de Boer, Jack Manini or Dany, Christian Godard has drawn the cover illustration for a vampire novel by Jeremy Bouquin, Bloody Shit, published by Inanna Editions.
The MARTIN MILAN comics series by Christian GODARD is finally being republished by Le Lombard Editions as a gorgeous omnibus edition, in the INTÉGRALES Comics Collection, with a magnificent vintage-style foreword by Patrick GAUMER featuring oodles of rare and previously unpublished drawings and photos.
